Pick up the Phone

'Ring, ring'. "The caller you have dialed is not available at the moment... please call back and try again ."

Bleep .

There's a faint annoyance in my answering machine's voice. I think she's bothered by the persistence of the people that just won't go away.

'Ring, ring'. "The caller you have dialed..."

There's mail in my letterbox. I know because someone called to say they couldn't deliver to me anymore, unless I emptied it. That was back when I used to answer the phone.

"... is not available at the moment"

I think there's another person knocking at the door again. One day they won't come by, but that suits me just fine.

"Please call back and try again..."

'Bleep'.

'Pick up the phone...'

I wish it were that easy.
